“A better life is a degree away”- believing in this motto, an increasing number of Bangladeshi students have recently been targeting their higher studies outside of Bangladesh. Recent successes in debate and world robotics championships prove that students from Bangladesh are highly talented and they are pushing forward irrespective of all the depravities surrounding them. Higher education from abroad in a multicultural and diverse environment may open many doors of opportunities, leading one to a more successful career than now – realizing this fact, in 2012, Dr. Abdullah Al Maruf, a Connaught Scholar from the University of Toronto, currently a Research Scientist and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary felt the need to create a common platform for all these talented students from Bangladesh where they can come together and pursue higher studies abroad, particularly in Canada. Later many students and alumni of different Canadian Universities joined the Moderation Team to run the platform smoothly.

Excellent education quality, better job opportunity, higher living standards and easily obtainable Permanent Resident status are a few of the main attractions of Canada for higher study seekers from any nation. "Prospective Bangladeshi Students in Canadian Universities" or PBSCU was created with only a handful of students studying at different renowned Canadian universities, focusing primarily on helping Bangladeshi students who want to pursue higher study in Canada with funding/scholarship.

This non-profit platform began its journey on January 28, 2012 and is now the largest non-profit academic counselling organization in Canada with more than 140,000 Bangladeshi members. From its inception, PBSCU is helping Bangladeshi students who are adamant to pursue their higher studies in top-class Canadian universities at all levels: undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral. The moderators, mostly current students and alumni at different Canadian universities, have been trying their level best to advise and guide these prospective students.

Applying to a foreign institution is a tedious process and many students often get confused with it, not knowing where to turn to for help. PBSCU offers a one-stop service (24/7) concerning the entire university admission procedure, providing detailed information about application DO's and DON'Ts, managing supervisors, living costs in different Canadian provinces and any other relevant information needed by a student during his/her journey for higher study. The group posts graduate laboratory opportunities and scholarship/award news on a regular basis. In addition, it has a rich document section containing more than 100 write-ups, which compile almost all the necessary information and tips and tactics that a higher study seeker would require before, during and after his admission to a Canadian University.

There was a time not very long ago when only a few Bangladeshi students dared to venture out of the country in search of knowledge. However, time has changed; PBSCU is one of the pioneer organizations helping out thousands of prospective Bangladeshi students in increasing availability of information about higher study at free of cost. We now have members who took help from us in almost every Canadian university.

Later this PBSCU platform founded the Canadian Alumni Association of Bangladesh (CAAB) in 2012 with the aims of helping current students with valuable information on how to settle in Canada, helping students with valuable study tips, job postings/interview tips/networking with professionals and organizing events to network with current students, alumni and professionals from Bangladesh. CAAB is a sister group of PBSCU and helping students transitioning from student to job holder, study permit holder to PR then to the citizen of Canada.

PBSCU and CAAB believe in changing attitudes towards higher studies in Canada and are working delicately on building a common ground for all Bangladeshis (current and prospective) in order to form a stronger Bangladeshi student community all over Canada.
