Writing a Study Plan properly is a matter of concern to many. But everyone’s study plan is unique based on their different situations and contains personal information that people generally do not want to share publicly so it is not a very good idea to ask someone to share their study plan here in the group. I am attaching a redacted study plan of one of my friend’s here with his permission. You can, however, follow these simple guidelines in order to write an effective study plan.

1) Write it like an essay in multiple paras. Do not make it ‘Question and Answer’ type.

2) Try not to Exceed one page. However, you can exceed one page if you MUST.

3) Keep it short and simple. Do not make it confusing or hard to comprehend for the VO.

4) Do not FLATTER.

5) Never degrade your own country.

6) State firmly and reasonably why you have to come back after your studies.

7) Explain why Bangladesh is not the BEST place and Canada is a Better place for you to study. (Do not flatter and do no demean BD, humbly explain our drawbacks).

8) Mention your country ties explicitly.

9) Explain your educational goal briefly.

10) Font: Times New Roman/Calibri, Size: 12, Margin: Standard.

11) Be careful about grammar!!

How to approach some of the most common questions:

1. Why do you wish to study in Canada in the program for which you have been accepted?

This is where you will explain why you chose that program, why Canada and why that specific dept. in that specific university. Mention some highlights of your dept. and university.

2. What is your overall educational goal?

Write your future plan here, what you want to do after getting that degree. It may be you want to get another even higher degree, or get into a job etc etc.

3. Why are you not pursuing a similar program in your country of residence or of citizenship?

Humbly explain our drawbacks and lack of research facilities especially in the fields of science and technology. Explain the advantages of having a North American degree and how it would be of more value than a domestic degree and help you stand out in the job market.

4. How will this program enhance your employment opportunities in your country of residence or of citizenship?

Explain the job prospects here in your related field of study and also having the added benefit of a North American degree.

5. What ties do you have to your country of residence or of citizenship?

Mention literally everything that will make you come back here from fixed assets/properties to your friends, family and relatives. Explain how you are emotionally bonded to this country.

6. If it has been more than two years since you have left full-time education, please provide your C.V.

Study gap will be a major issue if you do not give proper explanation of what were you doing in your breaks. Studying of IELTS for two years NOT a good answer. If you are already enrolled in any university, mention it clearly and honestly. NEVER lie on visa application. Attach your detailed CV. Provide details of your education history – dates when the course started and ended, the name and address of the school, the course taken, qualification, degree or certificate awarded for the course.

7. In the case of a minor applicant, what are your reasons for wishing to study in Canada? What is your parents or guardians immigration status in their current country of residence?

Explain this.

Here’s some samples of study plan. As we said before, COPY-PASTE and plagiarism (using others work as yours) will NOT be taken favorably by the visa officers.

Question 1: Why do you wish to study in Canada in the program which you have been accepted?

Answer: I have been accepted for the M.Engg in Industrial Engineering program at University of Windsor. After completing my bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, I was planning to do a Master program in Industrial Engineering. Their course outline is updated. Moreover, degree from a Canadian University is highly appreciated by the entire world. I prefer, if someone wants to learn anything perfectly, that person should learn it from the place where learning facilities are good. Canada is one of the most student friendly countries. Specially, In Canada International students get lots of supports from Canadian government while studying in Canada. Based on all these reasons I have determined to study this subject in Canada.

Answer: Different people have different educational goals. Some study only for achieving a degree, some study only for getting a secure a good job. I was very much passionate about Engineering from my earlier days, for that reason I started engineering study. Now, I am undertaking this M.Engg. To know more about field of Industrial Engineering, I have decided to do masters in that field of study. I also plan to get a Ph.D in the same field.

Question 3: Why are you not pursuing a similar program in your country of citizenship?

Answer: I have already mentioned earlier that Canada is one of the pioneer countries in the development of Industrial field. However, my country of citizenship is very far from that. Moreover, similar courses are available only in few public universities for every limited numbers of students. That is why it is very hard to secure admission in those universities in my country. Besides, this course requires real life practical field work with the help of modern and up to date technological equipment’s. Without these facilities it’s totally impossible to learn this program. To be a professional in the field of industrial engineering, I do not want to lack in any field of this course. So, I decided to start my program in a Canadian University.

Answer: Industrial Engineering is a unique program whose applications are used vastly in the field of Industrial development. Bangladesh is now developing quite fast in the industrial section. Without industrial development a nation cannot go forward. In my country, industrialization has just started. Lots of Industry have started their production and some of are going to start. These industries are run by government & private sector. Due to the growth of industrialization, my country needs more Industrial Engineer with up to date industrial knowledge. Program diversity is one of the major advantages of my program which most of the industries are looking for as requirements. Through this program, one can be able to achieve knowledge of Manufacturing System Simulation, Production and Inventory Control Systems, Advanced Engineering economy, Sustainable Manufacturing and so forth which are highly recommended for an Industrial Engineer. So, by completing this program, I can enhance my academic background and place myself in a secure job.

Question 5: What ties do you have to your country of citizenship?

Answer: In my country of citizenship I have strong family and friendship ties. All my family members live in this country. I am the only one child of my parents. That’s why every family member of my family loves me so much. In my family, we are only three members they are my father, my mother and I. My father and mother have become aged and they would require my care and support in the upcoming future. This is one of the most important reasons why I would like to return to my country as soon as possible after completing my graduation. Besides that there are some fixed assets of my parents those also need to be taken care of. I have many personal emotional ties with my country because I was born here and I spent all these years here. So I have lots of memories here which I cannot ignore no matter what happens. So, I wish to return to Bangladesh after completing my program.
